Marketing Fine Art Photography
Alain Briot is one of the finest photographers of Southwest landscapes in the US today. Alain provides workshops, has written several books, writes a column for the Luminous Landscape and sells prints from his Beautiful Landscape web site. Two of my favorite books by Alain Briot, “Marketing Fine Art Photography” and “How Photographs are Sold” are ones I consider essential for every amateur, advanced amateur or pro|am photographer to possess if you are interested in selling your work. Both are available as in-print or eBooks and are great primers on getting your work sold.
Briot’s book brings the basic marketing tasks you need to put together along with advanced selling techniques that are meant for selling fine art photography. His book covers getting prepared to sell your work to position yourself for greater success and then how to sell your work without being the pushy type of salesman that hovers over someone trying to convince them to buy. I know that if that is how it had to be done — I’d never make it out of the gate and Briot’s book helped me prepare to sell so I don’t have to be a hovering salesman.
If you have never sold your work before you’re going to find a world of ideas, checklists and stories from his experience in building a successful fine art photography business. Some of the things he covers in the book I had experienced in the development of my own photography sales, but Briot’s experience level took my ability to expand recognition of my work and sales to the next level. Below I have included the Table of Contents from his book and I think you will find it well worth acquiring and keeping handy as an on-going reference manual. Good luck to you!
